Big White Calf Island
About
Big White Calf Island is a small island in the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands, United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Ontario. It covers about 0.5 hectares (1.3 acres), with 0.3 km (0.2 mi) of shoreline, and rises to about 78 m (255 ft) above sea level. It is also known as White Calf. Canada's geographical names database records a name decision for Big White Calf Island dated 9 May 1974.
Dr. Edward Atkinson of Gananoque acquired the island from the Crown in 1898 and built the main house and boathouse, designed by Frank Lent, finishing around 1900.
