Burnt Island
About
Burnt Island is an island in the Admiralty Islands group, in the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands, United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Ontario. It is now called Aubrey Island and is part of Thousand Islands National Park.
A lighthouse was built at its east end in 1856, one of nine built that year on the Canadian side of the river. Its first keeper, Joseph Mervin, served for more than twenty years. The wooden tower was replaced with a steel gas beacon in 1906, the light was electrified in 1945, and it became unwatched after 1947.
